Social Exclusion Unit

Making research accessible

The Social Exclusion Unit publishes invaluable research on exclusion issues, but much of it used to be buried within large official reports, which meant that it was hard to find and was failing to reach its intended audience.

The Unit’s new website revamped the information architecture of the site to provide improved design, a clearer interface and, most importantly, better access to valuable information through a subject classification system.

The new site offered a genuinely sustainable solution.

The site also adds better integration with departmental systems, online ordering of publications and increased ease of access for disabled people.

Sustainability

Importantly, much effort was put into ensuring that the new website would offer a genuinely sustainable solution.

To make this happen, we undertook an intensive awareness campaign directed at staff in order to embed the site within the SEU’s publishing culture. Staff were engaged in the process of development and given the chance to understand the importance and value of how the website could help them deliver their mission.
