Public Life was appointed to create an accessible and mobile friendly new website for Dimensions and, following a second competitive tender, we have been appointed to refresh their organisational brand with a streamlined brand architecture.

As one of the country’s biggest and most important providers of services for people with learning disabilities and autism, Dimensions is also leading the way in innovation and best practice for the sector. It is committed to creating services which are outcomes focused and evidence based and is creating exciting new support models such as Dimensions Activate.

Public Life was appointed to create an accessible and mobile friendly new website for Dimensions and, following a second competitive tender, we have been appointed to refresh their organisational brand with a streamlined brand architecture.

We have been working with the team to create a step change in the way Dimensions communicates with customers, with greater emphasis on communicating best practice to professionals, as well as improved services for families and the people Dimensions supports.

Strengthening the service portfolio

Over time, Dimensions had developed an expanded and sometimes confusing service portfolio. This tended to dilute audiences' understanding of important core services, including high quality support for learning disabilities and autism, as well as obscuring the organisation's sector-leading specialist services. Dimensions is a leading provider of support for people with complex needs and has the most highly regarded positive behaviour support team in the country. It is also involved in innovative research into new support models such as Dimensions Activate, which is creating a step change in quality of life for people with disabilities. Public Life worked with the in-house team to clarify and simplify the service offer online so that Dimensions could focus its promotional efforts on these exciting and important areas of work.

Quick routes to local services

Dimensions wants its services to be responsive to local needs and accountable to local customers, so enabling users to quickly and easily find local contacts was key to our brief. We worked with them to create a highly user friendly search function that does all the heavy lifting in the back end to seamlessly connect people with their local area offices. Commissioners and service managers can also easily find properties available, as well as getting a portrait of the regional service offer through localised pages.

Best practice innovators

Dimensions leads the field with an 'evidence based, outcomes focused' approach. This is reflected in highly innovative projects such as Dimensions Activate, a new research-based support model which significantly improves outcomes for people with learning disabilities and autism. As a non-profit, Dimensions is committed to sharing learning, so we worked with the team to create a 'best practice' area on the website with specific relevance to professionals and peers working in the sector. This collects publications, case studies, information on current initiatives and blogs by leading practitioners into a clean and searchable interface to help highlight the wealth of information available.

A fresh take on Easy Read

Easy Read works best when distractions are minimised and information is presented as discrete chunks of text with supporting imagery. We took an innovate approach to Easy Read online for Dimensions by using a simple 'carousel' module which, while is familiar on many websites, finds a unique use here as a way of presenting image-text combinations in sequential order with minimum clutter. User can simplify things further by clicking an 'expand' button which greys out the rest of the screen whilst they read. We worked with Dimensions Easy Read consultants to understand the most useful information to provide in this format
